Oteil & Friends Comes To Baltimore Soundstage

Oteil Burbridge has quietly but firmly become a beloved household name in the jam scene over the years. His introduction to the scene began with his recruitment as a founding member of the late Col. Bruce Hampton‘s Aquarium Rescue Unit in 1991. Since then, the Washington, DC native has participated in numerous successful musical projects, including some of his own solo work, as well as some of the greatest bands to ever grace the stage (Tedeschi Trucks Band, Allman Brothers Band and Dead & Company, just to name a few).

Today, the famed bassist has announced the release of a brand new solo album, along with a brief tour in support, and Charm City is fortunate enough to be among the hosts of this incredible project. The new album is entitled Water In The Desert, and will be released on October 20, 2017, just before the start of the tour. Produced by David Ryan Harris, every track on the record was written by Burbridge and features an all-star cast of some of his favorite musicians including his brother Kofi Burbridge on keys, Dave Yoke on guitar, Lil’ John Roberts, Sean O’Rourke on drums, Miguel Atwood Ferguson on strings and outstanding vocalists Alfreda Gerald and Mark Rivers.

Here’s what Oteil himself has to say about the record”

“I started writing the songs on this record about ten years ago,” said Burbridge. “They are all songs about love in some way; finding out how to love yourself, hoping that another loved one will love you just as you are, believing in someone when they find it hard to believe in themselves, love gone wrong, or finally finding the “perfect fit.” I feel like every problem we have on earth in some way comes back to the lack of love. That’s really what this record is about.“
