Today, November 12, 2015, one of the most prolific songwriters in the history of music turns 70 years old. Throughout his various projects, from Buffalo Springfield to Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young to solo material and of course Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Neil Young has proven his abilities time and time again. One of my favorite Neil Young stories is the writing of “Ohio,” which was a direct result of the murder of students at Kent State University by the National Guard. One of his bandmates showed Neil the story in the newspaper, and without saying a word, he disappeared into the woods. He came back within just a couple of hours with “Ohio” written and ready to record. He is literally a songwriting machine, and I would like to wish him a very happy 70th birthday, and many, many more!
Enjoy this footage of Neil playing live on BBC in 1971.
